Beaver Section News

There is an urgent appeal for parents to step forward to help keep a Beaver section open at 1st Woosehill.
Across the District there is a long list of young people wanting a space in Beavers but without volunteers the sections cannot run. The current leaders have notified the Group they are looking to step down and without replacements the section will have to close.

We are holding an information evening at Montague Park School on the 19th September 17:30 – 18:30.
We are looking to open a new Beaver section, and Group so please come along if you are interested in helping or you have a child aged 6.
There will be an activity for the youngsters running during this slot.

Steve Capel was officially invested as 1st Woosehill Scout’s new Group Scout Leader (GSL) at the Group’s first joint campfire, attended by all Sections. Steve joined new Beavers and Scouts as they took their Promises and reaffirmed that he would ‘do his best’ as he received the Group’s distinctive blue necker from youngest Scout. Thursday saw the District Annual review at the Waterside Centre, where around 35 people listened to the new Town Mayor provide her first official speech in the role.
It was a night for introductions as Lorraine Bolam – the new District Commissioner welcomed Alison Sutton and Nick Green to their roles as Deputy DC’s strengthening the District team.

Wokingham District Scouts are happy  to announce that Lorraine Bolam has agreed to take on the role of District Commissioner.
Lorraine had been acting DC since Keith Gambles stood down just over twelve months ago.
Lorraine comes with a long and experienced background in Scouting, having held appointments at Group, District and County levels in the past. At this weeks AGM she also announced her new District team to help carry the District forward into the future. On Sunday over 450 members of Wokingham Scouting District gathered to mark St George’s Day.
The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Leaders from the Town’s 9 Groups paraded from the Town Hall to All Saints Church for a short celebration and then paraded back to the Town Hall. The parade was lead by Saint Sebastians Band and The Town’s Major.

Groups from across the District joined in either local or the Towns main Remembrance services last weekend.
At the main service in All Saints, over 500 people listened to the list of names of Wokingham residents who gave their lives in the Great War, plus a selection of names from the twin towns.
Members from 1st Wokingham, 3rd Wokingham and 1st Emmbrook joined Guides, Army and ATC to march round town and then meet up to lay wreaths in the Town Hall.

Members of 1st Emmbrook recently spent a Saturday brightening up the underpass at the Woosehill Roundabout.
With a the approval of Wokingham Council they have added some Scouting colour to one of the walls.

It is with great sorrow that we have to announce the passing of Colin last Wednesday 27th August.
Colin had held several roles in his active time in Wokingham District including the running of this web site.
At this stage we have no more details on arrangements.

Members of 3rd Wokingham Scouts supported the Civic Service the other weekend.
The service was held at St Paul’s Church on London Road and following a short parade ended at the Town Hall.
