Steve Capel was officially invested as 1st Woosehill Scout’s new Group Scout Leader (GSL) at the Group’s first joint campfire, attended by all Sections. Steve joined new Beavers and Scouts as they took their Promises and reaffirmed that he would ‘do his best’ as he received the Group’s distinctive blue necker from youngest Scout. Following the ceremony, everyone gathered round the roaring campfire to sing songs and enjoy hot chocolate, marshmallows and cakes. A great way to mark a new era …

Thursday saw the District Annual review at the Waterside Centre, where around 35 people listened to the new Town Mayor provide her first official speech in the role.
It was a night for introductions as Lorraine Bolam – the new District Commissioner welcomed Alison Sutton and Nick Green to their roles as Deputy DC’s strengthening the District team.

Wokingham District Scouts are happy  to announce that Lorraine Bolam has agreed to take on the role of District Commissioner.
Lorraine had been acting DC since Keith Gambles stood down just over twelve months ago.
Lorraine comes with a long and experienced background in Scouting, having held appointments at Group, District and County levels in the past. At this weeks AGM she also announced her new District team to help carry the District forward into the future. Most people know that whilst in Scouting you can work towards a wide range of badges and awards, but how many know you can also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme ?
Tonight at Wokingham’s Town Hall parents and other family members joined the Borough and Town Majors to award 25 young people Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

On Sunday over 450 members of Wokingham Scouting District gathered to mark St George’s Day.
The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Leaders from the Town’s 9 Groups paraded from the Town Hall to All Saints Church for a short celebration and then paraded back to the Town Hall. The parade was lead by Saint Sebastians Band and The Town’s Major.

Groups from across the District joined in either local or the Towns main Remembrance services last weekend.
At the main service in All Saints, over 500 people listened to the list of names of Wokingham residents who gave their lives in the Great War, plus a selection of names from the twin towns.
Members from 1st Wokingham, 3rd Wokingham and 1st Emmbrook joined Guides, Army and ATC to march round town and then meet up to lay wreaths in the Town Hall.

It is with great sorrow that we have to announce the passing of Colin last Wednesday 27th August.
Colin had held several roles in his active time in Wokingham District including the running of this web site.
At this stage we have no more details on arrangements.

Taking place from 2-8 June 2014, Scout Community Week gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the benefits and impact Scouting has on individuals and the social return to communities.
Over the past two years we have seen an outstanding number of Groups sign up to ‘Do1Thing’, resulting in great projects going on simultaneously around the UK and a burst of media coverage.

We have been asked along with other organisations to help support the Wokingham Food Bank with urgently needed donations to support people in the town.
Wokingham Food Bank , based in Roast Street continues to support the most needy in Wokingham with food and basic every day items. They currently have an appeal for some specific every day items and ask us all to purchase a few extra’s in our weekly shop to help others.
The key items most urgently needed are the following:
